Treatments & services

See below for comprehensive information relating to our treatments and services available.

Dental examinations & cleans

Dental examinations & cleans

We pride ourselves on providing thorough examinations at your first visit, we will discuss any findings and if required we will take x-rays, photos or a 3D Digital full mouth scan so you fully understand what is going on in your mouth.

If any treatment is required, options can be discussed and quotes provided. We aim to make you comfortable and confident in the treatment we provide and we welcome any questions you may have. Our goal is to treat every patient like we would our own family. We always like being asked the question "What would you do if it was your family having the treatment?" And that's what we aim to do – give you the best treatment like we would our family.

If its your first visit with us we ask if you could turn up 10 minutes prior to the appointment to fill in our comprehensive medical and dental questionnaire and we will discuss this at the start of the consultation/ examination in the surgery.

Preventative dentistry

Preventative dentistry

Prevention is always better than cure. It's easier, less invasive and cheaper than having active treatment, much better for patients and dentists alike!

At Narrabeen dental health we have a big focus on prevention and maintaining tooth structure. Tooth tissue loss not only happens from decay, gum disease and trauma but in this modern era we often see tooth wear from teeth grinding, medical conditions, dry mouth and acid erosion from diet or reflux. Even over-brushing incorrectly can abrade the tooth and wear the tooth down!

At your examinations we will monitor for tooth loss and wear as well as decay and gum disease and other oral health problems. We can then discuss and advise the best way to prevent tooth tissue loss through oral hygiene, diet, toothpastes and other wholistic advise so you can maintain your teeth and smile for the rest of your life. If tooth wear is a concern, we can use our Trios 3D scanner to scan your mouth and then in subsequent visits rescan your mouth and overlay these scans years later to compare and assess any tooth ear or movement.

Periodontal treatment

Periodontal treatment

Periodontal disease is the inflammation and breakdown of the periodontium (the surrounding pink gum, fibres and bone that support and maintain the tooth in position). It often starts as a reaction to too much bacteria/plaque/tartar being left around the tooth, this irritates the gum causing them to bleed (Gingivitis) but further inflammation can cause periodontitis which is an irreversible loss of fibre attachment and bone. Some patients are more at risk than others; poor oral hygiene, smokers, some health conditions, hormones and genetics can all influence your periodntium (gum) reaction to bacteria in the mouth. It is essential for all patients to floss and brush regularly as basic maintenance to remove the bacteria and try to prevent periodontal disease.

It is now well documented that there is an association between periodontal disease and heart disease, Alzheimer's disease and other health conditions. This highlights how essential it is to capture and treat any periodontal disease at an early stage and the dentists at Narrabeen Dental Health will regularly monitor your gum health, clean your teeth, treat any gum disease and help you prevent any periodontal disease progression.

Fillings

Fillings, inlays, onlays,

veneers & crowns

A filling (or restoration) replaces part of the tooth that has been lost due to decay, trauma, erosion, abrasion etc. Mostly this is done by rebuilding the tooth using a tooth-coloured restorative material (composite) directly restored in your mouth.

However, if there is substantial tooth loss or damage then sometimes this requires the tooth to be restored indirectly where an inlay/onlay/crown would be fabricated outside your mouth in a laboratory using a stronger, harder material such as porcelain, ceramics or metal and then subsequently cemented into place in the tooth.

Veneers are used to cosmetically change the shape, size or colour of a tooth by covering the visible front of the tooth with a facing to enhance the shape/size/colour. Veneers can be made directly using a composite filling material or indirectly in a laboratory using porcelain or ceramics and then bonded on to the tooth.

There is often different options on how to restore a tooth and each option or solution has advantages and disadvantages which will be better suited to your tooth. Gary, Debbie and Lauren will help you with your decision making process on how best to restore your tooth.

For those teeth that require fabrication of an inlay/onlay/crown or porcelain veneer we can now use our very accurate Trios 3D digital scanner and email this information to our laboratory without the need to take impressions in your mouth. All our patients are fascinated on how accurate and easy a scan is compared to traditional impressions.

Implants

Implants

Good planning is always essential to achieve good outcomes.

Root canal

Root canal therapy

At the centre of your tooth and in the canals of the root/s is the pulp. If the tooth decays or suffers trauma, cracks and chips then the pulp can become inflamed or damaged. Sometimes this can be irreversible requiring the tooth to either need root canal therapy or extraction.

Root canal therapy allows you to keep the tooth in place whereas extraction will lead to tooth loss.

Extractions

Extractions

At times extractions are required but you are in good hands. With a wealth of experience, careful planning and modern local anaesthetics, extractions can be made painless and with minimal trauma. Sometimes such as with difficult wisdom teeth extractions we will arrange extractions with some brilliant local specialists who we work closely with.

Your team at Narrabeen Dental Health will advise you on the best options, explain the procedure and support you all the way through.

Splints

Bite Splints, Mouth guards and
Sleep Apnea/Snoring Devices

Teeth grinding (Bruxism) can severely wear, damage and fracture teeth, to prevent this a protective dental appliance (splint) can be fabricated. It is mainly worn at nights and will protect your teeth and joints from further pressure and damage.

Mouth guards are essential protection if you play any contact sports. They help to lessen the forces caused by blows to the head, helping prevent your teeth and jaw from fractures or displacement. We have different mouth guards available depending on your age and what sport you need it for. They can be made in different thicknesses, colours and patterns. Your name and telephone number can also be printed on the inside of the mouthguard.

Obstructive sleep apnoea is a serious sleep disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts, causing stress on your general health. Several studies have shown an association between sleep apnoea and problems like type 2 diabetes, stroke, heart attacks and even a shortened lifespan. Mild to moderate sleep apnoea can be treated using a Mandibular Advancement Device such as a SomnoMed. It is worn in the mouth during sleep to prevent the soft tissues from collapsing and obstructing the airway. Studies show these devices improve sleep quality giving you more energy and they can vastly improve the quality of your life.

Tooth whitening

Tooth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the colour of natural teeth and can be used to enhance the beauty of your smile. When used properly it is perfectly safe for the tooth and surrounding soft tissue and will last for years before needing topped up. It can be done in the surgery using our Zoom whitening light or as a take home process using trays at home over a short period. In both systems we give you the whitening trays to be able to brighten your teeth again in the future should they fade back in years to come by simply purchasing some extra top up whitening gel.

Latest technology

Digital dentistry is here! At Narrabeen Dental Health we like to keep up with the latest technology to provide patients with better, more comfortable treatments.

Our new Trios 3 Shape Scanner can scan inside your mouth to an accuracy of 10µ (10 thousandths of a mm!) This enables us to eliminate the need for impressions and instead we can email these scans for fabrication of crowns/bridges and other prosthesis that patients require. It can also be used to monitor any damage from teeth grinding and erosion and regular scans can be overlaid to show any tooth tissue loss or teeth movements.

Children

Gary, Debbie and Lauren believe good dental health starts at a young age, they are all parents themselves and want every child's visit to the dentist to be a positive one. They take care to ensure every child's first visit is quick, fun and educational. Regular check ups after this allow us to catch any problems early and we find most children love coming in and leaving with their gift pack at every check up!

We want children to have healthy teeth and mouths which is why we give 50% discount for check ups, cleans and preventative fluoride treatment for children aged 0-17 years old. For children not covered by a health fund a 50% discount will be given from our adult fees or if covered by a health fund and your fund covers at least 50% of the adult fee there will be no gap payment.

We see patients covered by the Child Dental Benefit Scheme(CDBS) which is a government dental benefits program that provides over $1,000 in benefits for children aged between 0-17 years over a two year period to cover basic dental services for eligible children. You can check your child's eligibility with your Medicare online account at MyGov.
